To prevent being infected with the deadly Ebola virus, two people in Makurdi, Benue who believed salt could help prevent contracting the virus have been confirmed dead
The Sun reports that they drank and bathed with salt solution.
Dr Joseph Kumba, Director, Public Health in the Ministry of Health and Human Services confirmed the report.
“We got the report at a meeting today (Wednesday 13th August) that two persons died at Ushakaa clinic as a result of drinking and bathing with hot salted water.” he said.
The Medical Director of Ushakaa Hospital Dr Innocent Gbillah said it was a male and a female. Gbillah did not disclose the names of the deceased but said they were admitted into the hospital on Saturday. He told the public to be sure of any rumour before adopting it.“We did everything possible to help the victims but to no avail. One of them died on Tuesday at 7pm while the other gave up the ghost at 5am Wednesday (yesterday).” he said.
If you recall, just a week ago, 2 people died while 20 were hospitalised after excessive consumption of salt in Jos.
